I just found myself reading the brochure for the Aston Martin DB9 (http://www.astonmartin.com/thecars/db9/specification). Apparently it has an "Engine management system with Neural Net misfire detection system."

That's what I call progress: artificial intelligence that can say: "jeez, that sounds rough."
