Some lawyers are not bad

In the course of a serious discussion on the merits of judges, juries and lawyers on the BBC's Radio 4, (15 Feb 2005) a lawyer said:

"Not all lawyers are bad - but the 99% who are overshadow the rest of us."

There was no reaction from the other participants. So I'm still trying to work out if it was meant as a joke, or if, by accident, he was telling the truth.
