British politician Paddy Ashdown, writing about his religious beliefs, tells a story about his father, a Catholic:

"My father was a casual Catholic. I remember his sisters saying that when they went to their first confession - at about eight - they were at a loss as to what to say. They pored over the Bible and then confessed to the priest that they had both committed adultery."
